...Does anybody truly understand the fail categories, I mean really?

Anyways. Over on Sega Blogs, there is would you believe, ANOTHER contest. They want 100 pieces of fan art, for what could be considered a concept drawing of something from the forthcoming Sonic game.
A lot of people have misunderstood this as "draw a badnik from the first few 2D games", rather than a concept drawing.

So here's mine - an Asteron, and as per the brief, it's a concept drawing.
The original had a much smaller central eye/gem. This one has more aerodynamically shaped spikes, splits in its chassis for when it does explode, and ventilation for its innards. There are also recesses in the armour, because I fucked up when drawing and decided to keep it as it looks cool. It's a subtle set of improvements upon the original.

The biggest headache I had with this was the jewel in the middle. It was a pain to get looking like it does, and even then I'm not 100% happy with it. You win some, you lose some. I'm just happy that I'm finally able to turn my drawings into something that looks good, so I'll settle for a slightly fail colouring-in job.
